According to Capacitymedia on December 7th, the LoRa Alliance is committed to promoting the LoRaWAN standard for Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN). The alliance announced that the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has approved the technology.
Donna Moore, CEO and Chairman of the LoRa Alliance, said, "We make joint efforts with ITU-T (the Telecommunication Standardization
Sector of the International Telecommunication Union) to officially recognize LoRaWAN as an international standard by independent institutions."

She stated that this decision validated the market's trend of adopting LoRaWAN as an internationally recognized standard and laid the foundation for further growth.
ITU, as the largest, most respected, and influential global telecommunications organization in the world, is a subsidiary body of the United Nations with a strong government background, playing a significant role in coordinating and developing technical standards worldwide.
The alliance stated that the LoRaWAN standard has been deployed by more than 155 major mobile network operators worldwide, providing connectivity in over 170 countries and continuing to expand. Its members work closely together and share professional knowledge to develop and promote the LoRaWAN standard, which is the de facto global standard for secure, carriergrade IoT LPWAN connectivity. LoRaWAN has technical flexibility that can solve a wide range of IoT applications, including fixed and mobile applications.
"As the acceleration of digital transformation in various economies continues, the cooperation between standardization communities has become increasingly important," said Biel Jamoussi, the head of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau's research group. "We see that ITU is committed to building synergies in standardization work for IoT, smart cities, and communities. The approval of this new international standard demonstrates the shared commitment between ITU and the LoRa Alliance."

LPWAN is a popular research field of the IoT, which is more widely applied to smart city construction than narrowband networks. As smart city construction deepens, urban sensing applications will gain more attention. LPWAN network applications have their unique features: Huge Number of Connections, Low Communication Frequency, Low Power Consumption, Complex Coverage Environment, and High Cost Sensitivity. Therefore, low-power IoT is more suitable for urban sensing IoT application systems and is a key network for future smart city construction.
As a member of LPWAN networks, LoRa's greatest advantages are also Low Power Consumption, Easy Networking, Low Cost, and Long Transmission Distance, which can meet longterm operation, and its battery life can last for several years. Unlike other LPWAN networks, LoRa is still well suited for local domain needs. Not only does LoRa have the advantages of LPWAN networks, but it also supports private networking, which better meets the needs of enterprise data private transmission. Meanwhile, compared with narrowband networks, LoRa has Stronger Anti-interference Ability, Stronger Penetration, and more Reliable Connections.
At present, there are approximately millions of IoT nodes worldwide using LoRa technology. With the attraction of low cost, more and more IoT applications are starting to choose LoRa. As the number of global LoRa terminal products reaches billions, the cost of LoRa products will become even lower. The combination of LoRaWAN open standards, costfree operating frequencies, and lowcost base stations will attract more solution providers with low-cost needs to choose LoRa technology.
Do you understand the reason why LoRaWAN was listed by ITU as a global IoT standard?

The popularization of the IoT should be based on a people-oriented approach, with vertical application fields such as life safety,
transportation, medical care, environmental pollution, green energy conservation, food issues, and human resources being widely concerned for a long time. LoRa has more advantages in these scenarios compared to other communication technologies.
Aurtron mainly focuses on the vertical application field of IoT in building energy efficiency. Its LoRaWAN solutions mainly cover building energy consumption centralized measurement and management systems, building lighting energy-saving monitoring systems, air-conditioning energy-saving and monitoring systems, building wireless sensing systems, building smoke monitoring and fire protection systems, etc. It is committed to providing customers with a one-stop industrial IoT standard enabling platform.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has approved LoRaWAN as a global IoT standard, which not only indicates that LoRaWAN is a standard technology in line with current communication market applications, but also affirms the successful application of LoRaWAN technology in smart cities and communities in the past. Meanwhile, it predicts further growth of LoRaWAN technology in the construction market of smart cities and communities in the future.
